S.T.A.R. Puppy Class

The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, a course for puppies up to 6 months of age, is an exciting new program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. This program is sponsored by The American Kennel Club and taught by an AKC approved Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.

Training classes teach you how to best communicate with your puppy because puppies do not understand English until you teach them clearly what you are trying to get across to them. This class will do that. During the class we will also provide an opportunity for your dog to socialize with other dogs.

You will learn about and practice, controlled walking, sit, bite inhibition, leave it, drop it, down, coming when called, off, and quiet. We will discuss and work on solving puppy issues, fears and behaviors.

Start Date and Time: Saturdays starting November 12th at 10:00

Place: The Cottage Small Dog Daycare
6 week class
1 hour/week
Cost: $150

Emergency Recall Class

“Bitsy Come!” When your dog hears her name called does she turn around and race towards you? Does she stand and look at you? Or does she grab a toy and run the opposite way? Having your dog come directly to you every time you call her is the most important behavior you can teach your dog. Coming when called can save your dog’s life.

The Emergency Recall is a highly effective, easy to follow method used to teach your dog to come immediately when called the first time you call her. Learning this technique will give you the confidence that you can handle any situation, such as: the leash pulling out of your hand, another dog chasing after your dog, a strange animal on your property or getting your dog back to you after someone left the door open.

Canine Good Citizen Program and Test

The Cottage offers a class series to get dogs ready to pass the Canine Good Citizen Test. Dogs that have training are more fun to live with, because they behave better in the presence of people and other dogs. The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test (CGC) is a certification program that evaluates dogs in simulated everyday situations in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere. The purpose of the test is to ensure that dogs are respected members of their communities and are trained to act mannerly in the home, in public places and in the presence of other dogs. Dogs that pass the CGC test are deemed to be reliable family and community members and will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

Any dog is eligible to take the CGC test; mixed breeds, non-AKC registered dogs, etc.
